I love the silky airbrushed pseudo-realistic style of fairground art – makes it all the more exciting when you are there if they have the big colourful hordings everywhere. And I love the way they use celebrity to add to the smoke and mirrors effect of the fairground. Great people-watching too I always find.

The airbrush art reminds of 70s Californian custom cars/vans..

I’m a mild fan of mural art – There’s a bizarre one City Corner Cafein Petticoat Lane, and the curry cafe Sweet and Spicy on brick Lane has one of Asian wrestlers in, well, snug-fit pants..

Thanks for the Koestler Trust art exhibition reminder. I’ve been to it a couple of times at Wormwood Scrubs and the ICA. It’s always worth a look. Bought a batik once called Nova – of a twoc’d Vauxhall Nova. I like it. Though it’s not universally popular in our living room.

    Fascinating.
I am sometimes sent art from a prisoner on death row – drawings of Donald Duck or hands in prayer on white handkerchiefs; moving and bewildering images.
Because my granddad used to work the rides at traveling fairs – I’ve always has a soft spot for fairground art, especially the way it comes alive with music and the smell of oil and cotton candy!
