Blovelling

June 9, 2007

I went out for a lovely evening midweek with the collectively most clever and beautiful Miss Slaminsky and Miss Great She Elephant (in no particular order). On the second bottle of vino tinto we decided to start a participation novel – or blovel for want of a better word. All of the details are up on Great She’s main blog and her very splendid Halp blog. We will probably set up a shared blog to do it and have already got around 12 participants. Basically, you can write 1000 words or a chapter – whatever you prefer and the starting theme is still being discussed. I will post again with link once it is up and running. We aim to get it published on Lulu first of all. Anyone interested drop me or GSE/Halp or Slaminsky a line.

I wish I had room for bookcases rather than a heap in a corner and two piles next to my bed that are now taller than me. They look very cool. Bookcases, not the piles.

  5. OK, I’m a sucker for that kind of thing. But you knew that didn’t you?

it has its own blog now

http://theblovel.blogspot.com

Some other bugger nicked blovel.blogspot etc back in March 05 and then did nothing with it. We’ll show him, eh?

so what’s the concept then? free form writing perhaps, winging it? an anchor for plot line would be a solid foundation to build a story on rather than pick random words from a dictionary I think. Still, what the smeg do I know…fascinating idea though.

What about genre? sci-fi, crime, thriller, romance, horror, period. fuck! what am I going on about see you.

Jif – no – don’t put yourself down – you are quite right – we need to decide on subject matter and genre.
And someone needs to start…

oooh bookcases. I have several already and I’m hoping to get some more from my sister as she’s having a rethink on home decor.

the random words exercise was designed to generate ideas. Hasn’t really worked though.

I’m at a bit of a loss as to how 20 or so people are going to come to an agreement about an idea and a plot line.

Valerie got in there first so she’s starting.

Llewtrah – I need more – I have two other lots of shelves same as these in another room chockfull and more upstairs in piles. Maybe I just need to move house?

Great She E – I understood what you meant by the random word thing – thank god for Valerie that’s all I can say

Rivergirlie – blimey indeed! It’s pretty much how I organise my life – bits of writing scribbled in lots of moleskine’s everywhere..which I somehow manage to keep track of

Sounds interesting. Not sure I could stretch to 1000 words though. You could try doing it in sentences but it may end up a bit surreal.

    Thank goodness for Penguin.

Realdoc- I thought of that – the literary version of ‘consequences’ but that’s sort of what we do in comments anyway!

Arabella – oh I do love a Penguin! I can’t resist those orange spines.x

Can I get you to send me an email about your collaborative project now that it seems to have stalled? I’d like to post about what worked and what didn’t. Thanks.
