I’m Just A Love Machine

June 9, 2007

Geoff and Betty are off on holiday to sunny blobby Cornwall so I thought I’d do a quick post especially for them – something to talk about on the journey – especially impossibly yellow tight shorts. This clip made me realise where I must have got inspiration for this from.

Yes! Paula Yates of course. Anyway – here she is looking rather fab in tight rock t-shirt and leather jeans reclining on an unmade bed (where else?) with Jools reminiscing about how impossibly fabulous Wham’s version of ‘Love Machine’ actually was on the Tube in 1983. And I have to say – it is rather brilliant. Have a lovely holiday Betty and Geoff – I guess we’ll all be here wittering away about the good old days when you are back. Don’t go into any of those fancy tea-shops with tinternet connections and locally knitted potplants will you?

  1. Strange that Jools didn’t remember George being on the show. Or was he just being coy? Pulling my old leg do you think?

Dickley – I think it is safe to say that Jools probably didn’t remember because he presented most of the shows plastered.

Many thanks. The Miracles’ version of that song is one of my favourites – it’s as gay as a window.

That yellow shorts/hoodie combo is one of Geoff’s holiday outfits!

Betty – I read that as ‘gay as a widow’! I think I need a cup of tea. Don’t forget to tell Geoff that he has to wear white towelling socks with espadrilles too otherwise the outfit won’t be faithful to the original combo. How very nautical and quintessentially Cornwall. Have a lovely time. xx

It’s still quite painful having to watch Wham!
Pass me the Harpic…x

I was actually starting to feel a bit better there, but then the cameraman tried to get up ‘is shorts…
Hey Ister, I bet you’d’ve prefered the Space 1999 costumes to the ones the Wham boys are wearing!

    Ister – here you go.

Howeser – oh I think those scratchy crimplene Space 1999 outfits were far better

Yes, I have to agree with both of you there. You wouldn’t want to see me in tight yellow shorts.

i was at school with paula yates – it’s one of my very few claims to fame.
how can we not all have known george was queer as a three dollar bill? why was that cottaging thing a surprise? were we hypnotised by his swivelling pelvis?

Rivergirlie – Re: Paula respect! Counln’t you have entered that for the competition thingy you were shortlisted for the other week? Re: George Panayiotou – I know – you would have thought the over-chunky ecru cable-knit sweaters, half-mast trousers and towelling socks and espadrilles as well as the dyed eyelashes were a bit of a giveaway wouldn’t you? Then there was the Tom of Finland leather phase. How come we didn’t notice? I was really sad when I heard Paula Yates died – pretty desperate and tragic all round really.

dang – you’re right. i bet i’d have won with that too.

Rivergirlie – save it for next year!
